Frequently Asked Publishing and Printing Questions Pakistan
Get quick answers to all your inquiries concerning book printing, from formats and page counts to proofing and types of services available.
Six stages, and we handle all of them. Digital composition turns your manuscript into a clean file — we accept handwritten notes as well as typed ones. Editing polishes the text while keeping your voice. Formatting brings it up to print industry standard. Cover design produces a finished, print-ready cover. Registration files your ISBN and barcode with the government, normally within seven days. Then printing, quoted by format, quantity and finish. Every stage is priced individually on our packages page, so you can take all six or only the ones you need.
Yes, and the pop-up work is genuinely rare — we are the only publisher in Pakistan offering 3D pop-up book printing. We also print simple board books, built to survive being chewed, dropped and loved by the youngest readers, and kids' learning flashcards on hard-wearing card stock with finishes made for daily classroom and home use. All three are covered by our children's book printing service.
Editing comes at two levels, priced by manuscript length. Basic editing corrects grammar, punctuation, spelling and sentence structure, and includes one free revision plus a mentorship session with your editor — from Rs 4,000 for a manuscript under 5,000 words. Advanced editing adds structural work on scenes and characters, with three free revisions and mentoring, from Rs 8,000. Cover design is Rs 2,500 for an e-book cover and Rs 5,000 for a print cover, priced per cover rather than per revision. Print-ready file creation runs from Rs 150 per page for typed files and Rs 250 per page for handwritten notes, dropping as the page count rises.
We print flyers, brochures, posters and event collateral alongside the book itself, so launch material matches the cover rather than being sourced separately. We also recommend ordering a press proof before any full run: a single printed copy you can hold, photograph for social media, and take to bookshops or events while the main print run is still being made.
Yes to both. PDF is our preferred format — with a PDF print driver installed, virtually any program can produce a file suitable for printing. On quantity, we recommend printing roughly six months of supply rather than committing to a large run: most self-publishing authors order 100 to 150 copies, and experienced authors usually stay under 500. You can always print more if the book sells. Runs above 10 books qualify for volume rates. Turnaround depends on binding: perfect bound takes 10 to 15 business days, spiral bound 3 to 4 weeks, and hardcover 5 to 6 weeks, plus proofing and shipping.
Absolutely. We recommend printing a press proof as a great way to check out the look and feel of your book before committing to a full order. That way you can hold your book in your hands, just like your readers will, and see if your printed book is just how you envisioned it — from the cover design to the size.
We strongly recommend printing only enough books to supply you for approximately 6 months. You can always get more printed if the books sell well. Most orders we receive from experienced authors are under 500 books, and in most instances for self-publishing authors, 100–150 books.
On average it takes anywhere from nine months to two years between the day you sign your contract and the day your book actually gets released. Once you've signed, it's a long ride before you see your book on shelves.
Your binding style is the biggest factor. Perfect bound books take between 10–15 business days to print. Hardcover books take between 5–6 weeks, and spiral bound books take between 3–4 weeks. Please allow additional time for proofing and shipping.
Novels are typically printed at 5.5″ x 8.5″. Religious or faith-based books are mostly 6″ x 9″. Yearbooks, genealogy, handbooks, textbooks and manuals are usually printed at 8.5″ x 11″.
It is usual to include between 80 and 100 photographs, but larger photo books with up to 80 pages allow you to add many more.
The four types of printing services are letterpress printing, offset printing, digital printing and print-on-demand printing. Each has its own set of benefits and disadvantages depending on your run size and budget.
Not typically. Because white is the default colour of paper, it is simply recognised as the absence of any ink. However, when using coloured paper, white ink may be used if any text or graphic requires it.
Publishing houses may count differently for a book, a novella, a novel or an epic. On average a book is about 60,000–90,000 words long — approximately 200–350 pages.
Our digital equipment prints using 4 colours (CMYK) as standard, meaning any special colours will be converted accordingly.
PDF is the most common and preferred file format for submitting digital documents. With a PDF print driver installed, virtually any program can generate a PDF file suitable for printing.
